A fresh source claims that the Fallout 3 remake, which leaked in 2023, is still in the works.
In response to Bethesda development chief Todd Howard’s recent interview with GQ, in which he discussed The Elder Scrolls 6 still being some time away and “some other things we’re doing” in the Fallout franchise, VGC reports that a remaster of Fallout 3 along the lines of this year’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is one of them.

There are several speculations circulating regarding prospective Fallout remakes, and there is a growing anticipation among fans that Bethesda would return to its previous Fallout video games to keep players engaged while they wait for The Elder Scrolls 6.

Last month, Fallout Day 2025 passed without any new Fallout video games being announced. While the event featured the unveiling of a new edition of Fallout 4, a new Fallout: New Vegas package, and new content for Fallout Shelter and Fallout 76, there was no mention of any Fallout remasters, which some had hoped for.
At the end of the Fallout Day broadcast, Howard admitted that Fallout fans were likely upset, but assured them that Bethesda was working on “even more” Fallout. Fallout 3: Remastered appears to be part of this, provided it follows The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered’s title practice.

What about a remake of the popular Fallout: New Vegas? Ahead of Fallout Day, Hollywood actor Danny Trejo, who plays Ghoul companion Raul Alfonso Tejada in New Vegas, urged Bethesda to remaster the game. Many Fallout fans share this perspective, particularly given the rise of interest following the smash Fallout TV program, which returns to New Vegas for Season 2 in December.

Fallout Season 2: Who’s Confirmed to Return and Who’s New?
And we know Bethesda plans to release Fallout 5 after The Elder Scrolls 6. The last we heard about Fallout 5 was in June 2024, when Howard stated that he didn’t want to push it out the door. During an interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, the developer discussed the future of the popular post-apocalyptic RPG franchise.

“For other Fallout games in the future, you know, obviously I can’t talk about those right now, but I would say, sort of rushing through them, or we kind of need to get stuff out that is different than the work we’re doing in 76… we don’t feel like we need to rush any of that,” he went on. “The Fallout TV show fills a certain niche in terms of the franchise and storytelling.”
Fallout 4 was the last mainline Fallout game, released in 2015, and its Anniversary Edition was released this week. Fallout 76, a multiplayer-focused open-world RPG set in West Virginia, followed in 2018, and while players gradually flocked to the game, it wasn’t until the launch of Prime Video’s Fallout TV program that the Bethesda franchise gained traction.

Still, Howard refused to yield when it came to fan demands for a big video game release. For him, it boils down to a desire to handle Bethesda’s brands with respect.
“Totally get the desire for a new kind of mainline single-player game,” he told me. “And see, these things take time. I don’t believe it’s awful if people miss stuff. We really want to do it right and make sure that anything we do in a brand, whether it’s Elder Scrolls, Fallout, or now Starfield, becomes significant experiences for everyone who loves these games as much as we do.”
